How We Test & Choose
We're here to help you make one or two big, careful purchases — not to collect gear. Here's exactly how we decide what's worth your money.
Hands-on where we can
Our flagship guides are tested hands-on in a real spare room — we set the gear up, use it, measure the footprint, and live with it. Those pages carry a "Tested" marker so you know. As we expand, our first hands-on flagships are adjustable dumbbells and weight benches.
Where we haven't tested, we say so
For everything else, we rank on documented specifications and owner consensus — load ratings, dimensions, materials, warranty, and the patterns in hundreds of verified owner reviews. We tell you plainly when a pick wasn't in our hands. We never invent test results or "as-tested" claims.
What we weigh
- Footprint & scale — will it actually fit a spare bedroom, a single garage bay, an apartment corner?
- Build quality — steel gauge, stability, the parts that wear out.
- Value for money — worth it, skip it, or best for small rooms, with the reasoning.
- Who it's for / not for — honest fit, not one-size-fits-all.
No paid placements, ever
We're reader-supported. Commissions never change our rankings, and no brand can pay for a spot. We use original photography of real gear in real spaces — never scraped product shots.
