How We Research & Choose
We're here to help you make one or two big, careful purchases — not to collect gear. Here's exactly how we decide what's worth your money. We're research-led: we don't physically test each product in a lab, and we never pretend otherwise.
How we judge a pick
We rank gear on documented specifications, manufacturer data, and the consensus of verified owner reviews — load ratings, real dimensions and footprints, steel gauge, materials, warranty, and the patterns across hundreds of buyers who live with the gear every day. We read the spec sheets and the fine print so you don't have to.
What "research-led" means — and doesn't
It means our calls come from careful analysis, not a sponsored hands-on stunt. We never invent test results, "as-tested" numbers, or first-hand experience we didn't have. Where our writer has genuinely used a product, he says so; where he hasn't, he tells you what the recommendation is based on. Every money page states the basis for its picks.
What we weigh
- Footprint & scale — will it actually fit a spare bedroom, a single garage bay, an apartment corner?
- Build quality — steel gauge, stability, the parts that wear out.
- Value for money — worth it, skip it, or best for small rooms, with the reasoning.
- Who it's for / not for — honest fit, not one-size-fits-all.
No paid placements, ever
We're reader-supported. Commissions never change our rankings, and no brand can pay for a spot. We don't use scraped manufacturer photos to imply hands-on testing we didn't do.
